Weekly Challenge: Through

30 Mar

“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.”_ Dr. Seuss

Who doesn’t just love Dr. Seuss!  Finding this quote sealed my decision for my photo for this week’s challenge.  I started off the week looking for something not as obvious…  But after recollecting the day we had at this old abandoned house I realized this was the perfect photo to share.  To anyone else it may have been just a torn apart home.  Wrecked by hurricane I presume.  Through this window however is one of the most spectacular sites I have ever seen.  It didn’t take long for my mind to wander and dream of all the possibilities about who lived here before?  Where are they now?  Could this someday be mine?  Abandoned and broken I believe it to be more beautiful now, then when it was whole.. but I will never know.  And when it is demolished, and a new mansion set in its place… who will one have to know just to catch a glimpse of this view?  Why is it that so often these views are hidden from the ordinary folks and reserved for those few fortunate dwellers and companions.  I like to fantasize, that if this were my view, or if I had one of similiar glory, that it would be on display to the world.  Not hidden, not obscured.  Not held in secret.

A-Z Archive: M! Mothering

Mothering:

“I will love you forever,

I’ll like you for always,

as long as I’m living,

my Mother you’ll be”

Robert Munsch

Anyone who has read this book has probably not put it down without grabbing a tissue first.  My mom follows her heart each and every day and sometimes that causes her to make tough decisions.  This weekend was a difficult one in which she had to trust her heart that with her help a friend in need will come through the worst of times.  It is hard to trust yourself in these situations when the trust is actually 100% in someone else’s behaviors and actions… your mind doubting what your heart is telling.  I love my mom for her courage and willingness to hold the hand of our dear friend during this time.

As long as I’m living, proud of my mother, I’ll be.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrast: Day 4

15 Mar

Thursday:

“I do not understand how anyone can live without some small place of enchantment to turn to.”_MKR (in this case beautiful Batchewana Bay)

Not sure what possessed me on Monday to do one of these each day this week…  I’m sure you are all tired of hearing from me!.. But staying true to my word… Here’s one for Thursday and in contrast to yesterday… it does not involve Blue!

and as a bonus here’s a photo of my friends taken not too long afterwards.

“A woman has got to love a bad man once or twice in her life, to be thankful for a good one.” MKR (My favorite author these days)

“It was the in between time, before day leaves and night comes, a time I’ve never been partial to because of the sadness that lingers in the coming and going.” _SMK

“It is impossible to walk alone at twilight and not find beauty”_MKR

After playing with these pictures they began to remind me of the old “Visit Florida” Postcards from a while back.  I wish people would send postcards more often! In our hurried current society, it is so rare to even receive a handwritten letter any more.  I think I am going to make a point to send at least one letter or postcard each week this month.  Someone has to keep the USPS in business right?  Anyone want to join me?

A-Z Archives: D: Day is Done

23 Feb
Sunset Fishermen
Night, the beloved.  Night, when words fade and things come alive.  When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again.  When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree. _ AdSE

AdSE is one of my favorite authors and this quote fits this photo perfectly.

I am Eve

22 Feb

Thoughts on the chapter “Managing Eve” by Tom Demarco in Slack.

“She is everything that I respect in a person: irrepressibly curious, courageous, undaunted by authority.  Most of all she is intent upon personal growth, determined to fulfill not just some, but all of her promise.”

Demarco contrasts the often descripted “Fall” of Eve.  He interprets her decision to a personality trait that is commonly the heart and soul in many organizations, and a reason why such an organization runs smoothly.   He describes this personality as a quest for knowledge and disapproval of “limited growth”.

You can’t tell Eve to do something because you say it has to be done..  you can’t impose on her goals that don’t make sense to her… she will look at you like you’ve gone bonkers… If you burden her with enough tasks that seem pointless to her, she will soon be gone…  Most of all you can’t structure her work in a way that gives her no opportunity for growth.. you can no more expect her to work without meaningful challenge than you could expect her to work without salary.”

I am Eve.  I will stay hungry for more.

A Lake Called Alice

“I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night? Let me think: was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!'”
– Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland, Ch. 2

My first of the A-Z challenge.  Don’t know if this will be daily or weekly for me… but I like the idea, so I’ll take the challenge one photo at a time!  Looking forward to XYZ!

Dare to be different

“When everybody thinks alike, everyone is likely to be wrong.”– Neill

In his book The Art of Contrary Thinking, Neill describes how to avoid and recognize the dangers that “following the pack” can pose.

Although this book is in regards to the stock market which I know nothing about it absolutely applies to EVERYDAY life! Think about your workplace and your other relationships… reminds me of my Mom’s favorite saying when I would want to do what all my friends were doing…”If your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do that?”

Stop and Think… more importantly, SHARE your thoughts, your thought may just make that change happen!
